Eng. Abdullahi is the founder and Executive Director of CED. He was born in Mogadishu, Somalia 1964.
He completed his Primary, Intermediate and High School education in Mogadishu, Somalia before proceeding to Somali National University where he earned a BSC degree in Civil Engineering on November 15, 1984. From 1989 to 1990, he has actively participate in the Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) offered to Middle level Man-agers in Mogadishu, jointly Sponsored by the United States of America and Somalia institute of Development, Administration and Man-agement (SIDAM) and State University of New York at Suny, Albany.
He has actively been involved in philanthropic work in Somalia for the last 24 years and is dedicated to promoting and improving education facilities, livelihood, agriculture, infrastructure, water and sanitation services to reconstruct the country, ravaged by many years of conflict
Apart from his current position he has served the public in different capacities while working with the Ministry of Education as a secondary school teacher in 1985, Somali National University (December 1986-1990) as an assistant lecturer where he served for five years until the breakup of the civil war in 1991.
In addition he also worked as Program Manager with Diakonie- Bread for the World Germany (DBG), an International NGO for eight years (1997-2003) where he rose to serve as a member of the management team. He also worked as Head of Programs and member of the management team (January-November 2004) for Daryeel BulshoGuud, a local NGO working in Somalia.
During his 24 years dedicated service to the humanitarian sector, and despite adverse security challenges, Abdullahi has been in the forefront, implementing community projects that contribute to poverty reduction thus saving the lives of people displaced by conflict and natural disasters. This he has done as a contribution to the International and National efforts of improving people’s lives.
Eng.Abdullahi is in the steering wheel of CED’s work in Somalia that addresses the country’s priorities of creating employment opportuni-ties for youth, and improving education, livelihood, agriculture, water and sanitation, women and youth empowerment sectors. An example is from 1998 to 2013, where he rehabilitated/constructed and assisted 44 Educational Institutions including Primary, Secondary and University Students by reaching about 51, 000 students and learners, training 112 teachers while paying them some monthly incentives and facilitating the formation and/or reestablishment of the Community Education Committees (CECs) at the above Educational Institutions.
Under Abdullahi’s leadership, CED has implemented over 83 projects funded by different donors who included: OXFAM (NOVIB) and its affiliates from Oxfam International, e.g. OXFAM GB, OXFAM HONG-KONG, OXFAM QUEBEC amongst others and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, FAO, UNDP, WFP, UNHCR, UN-OCHA, UNICEF, CARE INETRNATIONAL, United Nations Democracy fund (UNDEF), Somali Stability Fund (SSF) and European Union.
This enabled CED reach over 4.2 million people (IDPs and Host families) in Somalia. The diversity of donors, scope of projects imple-mented and the number of beneficiaries reached only affirms Abdul-lahi’s ability to build partnerships that help in mobilization of resources to fund programs that benefit the Somali people.
